Are your sites taking ages to get indexed and ranked?

Remember the old days when you could put up a site, submit it to a few search engines and get a ton of traffic. Well those good old days are gone. These days getting your site fully indexed and ranked high is very difficult.

Most people focus too much on the "on page" factors like keyword density, and related keywords taking Google's latent semantic indexing into account.

Off page factors like inbound links are often thought about like an afterthought.

Big Mistake!

A strong combination of "on page" and "off page" factors is what is needed to rank high.

There are several ways to get backlinks to your website like reciprocal linking, blog and ping and forum signatures. But the reason these don't work so well is because they aren't from sites of a similar theme.

So what exactly is theming?

The theme of your site refers to your site's primary topic. For example, you might have a site for a business that sells gourmet cat food. If you want to rank highly in Google for the keyphrase "Gourmet cat food", then your site should have a narrow focus on the topic of cat food.
Effective themeing involves excluding as much content as possible that might distract from your site's primary theme. If you were to add a section on "gourmet dog food", you would be diluting your site's and this will have a negative effect on your SE positioning for the phrase "Gourmet cat food".

This same concept of "page theming" also applies to your inbound links.

The theme of a link is defined by the keywords you choose to use in the anchor text (i.e. the text of the link). So, if you link to your cat food website with the words "gourmet cat food" in the anchor text, you are reinforcing that page's cat food theme.

Google places a lot of weight on the keywords found in anchor text and themeing your links is one of the most effective ways to theme your pages.

Simply getting backlinks with your choice of anchor text, to your website doesn't necessarily mean that you will rank high for the keyword you have in the anchor text.

An inbound link from a site that has the same theme as the site you pointing that link to is more valuable than a link from any random site.

Inbound links that one gets using strategies link blog and ping and forum signatures may not be very valuable as they may not necessarily have the same theme as the site you are pointing the link to.

So how do you get quality themed links from sites that have the same theme as you your site?
